:)

Hi! everything is great over here. just alot of classes and homework and laundry haha. we make our own fun in between all of the crazieness! but on our budgets its never anything too crazy! I have been to alot of art exibits (mostly for classes but still free and fun) and alot of parks (washington square park is really close and great for when i have to read a gazillion pages for art history. there is a pretty fountain which i like to sit by). The Union square market has become my favorite place! its the largest open air market in new york and it is like a block from where i live. they have millions of tents all filled with amazing fruit and vegtables and baked goods and cheese and meat and yarn and art and one of a kind screen printed t-shirts and jewelry and jam and honey and about everything you think of and it is everyweekend and some weekdays. everything is soo good and soo cheap and they give free samples. the apples arnt as good as back home but they are wayyy better (and cheaper) than anything store bought apples and the vegetables are soo good and they all go great with my newest obsession Hummus :) i could literally eat it every meal and would probly give up meat for it haha. we do a bit of cooking here too as i have mentioned before. some baking, cookies, cakes, we have done pancakes a couple times. we made lasanga the other day and it came out good. we used ground turkey, whole wheat noodles, lowfat sauces and cheese and it was actually really tasty! we also made cool whip ice cream sandwiches which is cool whip free and low fat gram crackers freezed together... verrryyy good!
This sunday was the 1 month aniversery of the day we moved in so thats why we made lasanga, to celebrate haha! its crazy that it has only been a month if feels like years! during the week we can never really go out so we have fun nights in! mondays we watch THe Hills on MTV and on Wedsdays we watch Gossip Girl and all the days in between we watch Sex and the City which we have almost finished all 6 seasons!! we always try to eat healthy, sean and me, but Sunday is kinda our cheat day. we usually either get bagels (cinn rasin with fat free cream cheese! delish), or pizza (there is this place called Pie near us that has really thin crust and sells their slices by the pound... very good!), we hit alot of 24 hr diners at odd times of the night (for coffee and egg white omlets with toast!) and we also just found a really good cheap chinese food with great dinner specials and delicious beef and brocolii! well even if we do 'splurge' we tend to still try to eat ok... haha its kinda out of habit.

The classes are good, hard but good. i like most of my teachers. my 3d teacher is a little too laidback for my taste (hes from california... we all blame his west coast roots) but it could be ALOT worse as i have heard from my fellow peers with horrible teachers. drawing is still my favorite. she is bringing it a friend of hers who works at diane von ferstenburg (famous fashion designer if you didnt know) and she is gonna come in sometime and look at all the fashion kids portfolios and maybe offer up some internships which would be exciting.when i get my camera back (any day now lets hope) i will take LOTS of pictures of my work. i have a couple though that i can post now.

The black and white pattern if for 2D, the watercolor skyline painting is for lab, and the rest are all 3D i think. i will explain them more later but i have class soon!! have an awesome day everyone :)

Hi everyone. i haven't written in a while because i have been very busy. Classes and homework are intense so i barely have enough time to sleep let alone write....haha but it is fun and i really enjoy what i am doing. I had Thursday off this week because of Rosh Hashanah so i went and had a very nice dinner with Michelle, Steven, Nana, Papa, Michelle's parents and acouple of their friends oh and of course Sofia! it was fun and delicious!! they sent me back with enough leftovers to last weeks :) This week is my first full week of classes so i will see how that goes. i am way organized and im getting all my homework done early which is good but it seems whenever i finish i just get more... its a never ending cycle but thats life i guess. well i have to finish my Art History reading but i thought i would write a little bit! i miss everyone and even though i love it here i do get a tiny bit homesick everyonce in a while so call so i don't forget everyones voice!! haha xoxoxo

Busy Busy

Sorry i haven't been writing alot.... its just crazy over here. well this weekend was fun. i got alot of work done and we did alot of cooking. we tend to cook alot... i dunno its kinda a stress reliever kinda thing. we decided to get tones of work done on saturday and to reward our selves we planed out couple meals. it was fun and i meen we have to eat anyways so it was cheaper then going to a resturant or getting take out. we made nachos, grilled cheese and tomato soup and then whole wheat waffles plus a home made tasti ice cream cake (we are very creative). Its cute though because we use the low fat substitutes for everything... i meen we want to splurge but its like the light chips and the low fat cheese and 40 calorie bread! we try to make meals with the least calories possible. we had a barbecue at our friend annies too which was fun. some friends came over and we grilled on their balcony. plus yesterday we made our famous diet soda cake. i dunno if i mentioned it last time we made it but it is basically just cake mix and instead of adding eggs and oil and butter and whatever else they ask for you add some form of diet soda. it eliminates like half the calories and makes it soo light and fluffy we LOVE it! our first one was Lemon cake and Diet 7 up and our second was White cake with diet cherry coke. they were both delicious. we always make powdered sugar glaze for the top too and we leave our door open so the whole floor smells it cooking and we always give them a piece! haha soo yeah alot of cooking. on the other hand classes are good. i am getting all my work done on time and i haven't had a bad crit yet. my favorite class by far i think is drawing but it is my hardest class as well. i just learn so much its amazing! I have always loved drawing but i was never really really good at it but with her teaching every lesson is sooo good and i just want to learn more and more. i feel like im at some summer program or something and any second now they are gonna be like ohh summers over gotta go back to Londonderry High School. haha its crazy though. im really proud of my self for handling the work load really good. its amazing what you can get accomplished if you get organized and really want what you are striving for. well i have class today... critical reading and writing and then 2D, but i have tommorow off for Rosh Hashanah but i will still have work but maybe i can finally get laundry done!! miss you all <3

Day 4

Wow... today was a really good day. i woke up really prepared for class which made me feel great. i had drawing an 3d again.

3D was sooooo cool. we got a tour of the work shop and we got or own tool box filled with cool stuff and got to see how all the machines and saws and screws work. i am so excited to make something!! we also had a critique if the pictures we took. i had a really good critique. i kinda understood the assignment a little better that everyone else so it seemed and everyone including my teacher really liked it. he told me i had an amazing eye for detail which made me happy.

Drawing was amazing too. she is turning into my favorite teacher. she was really intimidating at first but she is just sooo good at what she does. she is preparing us for the future and i love it. her lessons are so intresting and informative that i just dont want them to end. my critique for that class went well too. she says I am really good with design. i worked sooo hard on what i did too. i just didn't want to disapoint her. i am so excited for this class to continue im going to learn soo much

i love college!

Well i just wrote my paper for my Lab project. i just thought i would post it and you guys can tell me what you think. it is obviously about New York CIty but im not supose to name it and it is supose to be in a voice like i am describing it to someone who has never been there or heard of it. it is suposed to be like a book that they made us read parts of. i would lovee feedback. its due sunday by email. i have to draw an image to acompany it too but i will do that later.... here it is.

Cities & Experiments

There is this great city on this small island. The people are drowning in the waters that surround, almost a sinking city, underwater but not yet they don’t realize. The water, bubbles of white keeping the city trapped within itself. The bubbles are the dreams of the inhabitants floating still on the surface but caught in the wave. Waves; destruction, distraction, crests of love crashes of death, curls and splashes, desires and mountains of truth.

This city, this beautiful city, the ups and downs of the skyline are photographed every second but travelers but the visiting don’t realize that it holds the key to what the city is. The skyline is life in the city itself, the ups and downs that make it a truly unique society. The city is geometric; Lines, little squares, straight and concise, like its expectations. Beauty in the usual is ignored and one only focuses on the ever changing extraordinary.

Trees scatter the street as an attempt to conform, to become like other places but there is no other like this, it is unique in good ways and bad. The Streets are mazes of confusion, pits of dirt, home to stores with no purpose, buildings that are just there. The possibilities are never ending, food, clothes, services, and shelter. Conversations live here. You travel the sidewalks; you hear snidbits, pieces of life, and pieces of distraction. The whole city is just one big distraction from life and the big wide world that exists outside this tiny island.

The island is like a zoo. The streets and buildings are the cages. The bridges are the holes between he bars. The possibility of escaping is always there but the fear of the unfamiliar keeps it just as that, a possibility. Creatures of all kinds roam free, some confined to different areas, others scattered among the constructed world around, people of different colors, beliefs, origins, states of mind, ambitions, and financial means. Beauty exists everywhere in such a diverse culture but many chose not to see it or become aware of it. Hatred is present but so is love and happiness and acceptance. Different paths, overlapping lives, like a unique social experiment that just wont end.

Carts of goods, people, places, smells, feelings, cracks in sidewalks, gum on streets, cars, bikes, cabs people are everywhere yet you feel alone slightly. Sounds are everywhere as well as smells yet you can’t recognize what you are recalling or noticing. Sounds, sights, and smells just blur together into one. A meeting place, a gathering of the world, a place like no other yet made of bits and pieces of other places and other cultures blended into one big smoothie of a city with a flavor unrecognizable yet you just have to take another sip.

its kinda a rough draft. i dont know if its finished or not or even makes sense...haha well comment if you have any sugestions :) thanks i miss you guys <3

Day 3

So... again not much time but here it goes.... I had Lab yesterday. its a 9:00 am- 2:40 pm class that is mandatory for all freshman foundation kids. its hard to explain the purpose of the class (read discription in the posts below) but we went on a 3 hr circle line tour around manhattan. it was really fun. it was a nice day, we took the subway up and we got to draw and write and take pictures. our assignment it so write a story and an acompany it with an image to describe our experince on the boat. some of the pictures i took i will post

after that i went back and got some work done. i got a package mom sent containing apples (from Macs hehe) and sugar and flour and me and sierra bought some butter and made apple crisp.... it was amazing... tasted like londonderry! we made a cake the other day too which i have a picture of below.

today i have 3d in the morning and drawing later. in 3d we get introduced to the shop so im a little excited and want to start handle sharp stuff haha. in between i have to go to circut city because my (new) camera isnt working which sucks alot. and drawing might be a little intense but im ready! 2nd Day!

wow i dont have that much time because i have to go on a boat trip for my laboratory class in um about 20 mins (will explain later) but i want to exlain yesterday a little

well i started with critical reading and writing. i was kind of dreading it because as much as i like to write and read i didn't think giant papers about stupid books i didnt like was gonna be fun but i guess everything we do or read in that class is related to art in design and in class we did a really intresting reading on Functionalism which i didnt know much about but really enjoyed. we have to write papers but it wont be that bad and we get to go to the MoMa in a couple classes. my teacher was nice too.

i had a break and did Home work and bought supply but then i had 2d. It was fun. my teacher was really cool and we had an intresting lecture. its really cool because in this class we are doing alot of computer assisted design so we get to learn illistrator and photoshop which even though i have some experience with both i am no expert and would love to learn more so im excited for that.

I have to go but i will try to post some work maybe later today. i just have to say that i am mega organized and i am predicting a very good year!

1st Day of Classes

Today was my first day of classes!! i am so exausted. i have alot of work so this isnt gonna be crazy long... as i suspect most of my posts from now on will be. i will just explain what the classes were like and my teachers

3d was first. my teacher is new to the new school. his name is Charles and he is a sculptor. he is really cool and layed back about everything. we basically just went over the syllibus and what our projects are going to be. the cool thing about the class is you are not alowed to use glue so we have to find ways around glue to make our structures stay together. Im excited because in my sculpture class in high school we were very limited matereal and tool wise. here we get to use metal and wood and saws and all these crazy tools in this 'shop' as they call it. i get trained in it next class which is friday. im soo excited to use a saw you have no idea! our first project we have to take pictures of the constructed enviorment around us. basically boring everyday things but we have to make them not boring. and then we make abstract drawings and paintings of them and then turn them into abstract sculptures. its supose to represent how we as artist turn everyday things into art. he also incorages us to used reycled matereals to create our sculpture with which i think is really cool and it add alot to the whole concept. i have to take those pictures for my drawings on friday. i will post the pictures and all the art work as i do it so you guys can se all my work!

Perpectives of World Art and Design was next. im just gonna call it Art History now because thats really what it is. I love my teacher. she is just this really funny sarcastic lady who really knows what she is talking about. i forgot how much i loved art history. just analizing art and discovering the story and true meaning behind it is amazing. the cool thing is that i am in new york so our teacher is incorperating all of the New York museums into our lessons so we can analize the art in person... she even said we could maybe take a field trip to galaries in chelsea which would be wayy fun. i already bought my text book (a little over 100 dollars by the way... the most expensive book i have ever owned haha) so there is going to be alot of papers and reading but it is all about something im really intrested in so i think it will be fun. plus there really isnt much of a right or wrong kinda thing with art history. its not like a memorizing dates and names kinda class its more like what does this meen to you and what did you think the artist was trying to portray with the information you know about the artist and the time period it was painted in. i find it soo intresting and really inspiring in a way. it will be a great parallel to all my other classes.

Drawing studio was last. its gonna be a hard one. the teacher is very strict. she wants everything to be turned in profesional and extreamly neat and to the exact exact specifications she gave us or else she wont accept it. we have to be completely on time to class or else we have to wait in the hall for 30 mins even if we are only 30 seconds late. she even said that we couldnt wear ripped jeans and low cut shirts to class because we needed to be profesional. I know its going to be hard but like she said it is how we would be treated in the profesional world. if we hand in mediocre work we will be fired so she is preparing us for the future which i think will be very valuable. as hard as it is going to be i know i am going to learn so much. with one class it was amazing. we did a test in the begining, she had us draw and what not and i was so rusty and bad but then whe was like id rather you not know that much then if you were cocky and thought you knew everything. im just gonna try to learn as much as i can and give my 100% that is what she expects from us and that is really what i want to be able to produce. its gonna be really hard but i know i will improve amazingly by the end of the semester! im kind of excited/ scared about it.

well i have some work to go through and tommorow i have critical reading and writing and 2D studio so that will be fun plus alot easier that three classes in a row! tuesdays the worst... i can already tell but the classes seem so rewarding and better than any i have ever taken and i am going to learn so much and be really prepared for next year! sorry if i start to neglect this blog but i hope you all understand. i will defenetly still post pictures of stuff expecially all my projects. wish me luck!!

1 more day to go!

So today is my last day to relax before classes start tommorow!! its kinda scary in a way but im excited. we were talking last night and we were all like "how long have we been here?" it just feels like forever!! but juggling all these classes are gonna be a whole new ball game! if you saw my schedule (posted below somewhere) you reaize how crazy even my first day is gonna be!! Tuesdays are gonna be the worst!! the true test i guess.

well after laundry yesterday (the clothes werent that pink... its not as bad as i thought haha) I made dinner. it has the first time i actually cooked (like stove and everything) it was one of these frozen stir fry meals and it was like wayy good too. the ancient gas stoves a little scary but i got the hang of it. the like high med low marks on the burner controls kinda rubbed off so i have to guess...lol but after dinner sean got back and we hit tasti and started our Sex and the City marathon (we r determened to finish the whole series) but Sierra called an came down to the room and we had a Pajama Dance party! it was fun we just danced and took pictures and talked all night....haha here are a couple pictures

im just chillin today and getting organized for tommorow!!! talk to you all later

Sunday, September 02, 2007

okay i take that back

Ya when i said that i was doing my own laundry i guess im not as awesome at it as i thought i was.... lets just say some things got a little pink but i am taking back some of the cockiness i used before because i am still a laundry amature

Lazy Sunday!!

So today i slept in a bit, went to the gym and then went with my friend Sierra to the TV lounge in the basement where they were showing Borat a highly offensive yet seriously funny movie that i have seen way to many times. that was fun and after that i went up and decided to do laundry (yes mom i did my own laundry) i seperated my lights and darks like a good girl and i just put my two loads in the washer and i am now waiting.... doing your own laundry kinda makes me feel really independent haha! i just thought i would share my triumph! Sarah actually can do laundry!!! take that!

Im Backk

Wow alot has happened since my last post!! Well right after i finished my nap yesterday my friend Sierra called me who i met somewhere or another and we were both bored so we went walking around the east village into various cute vintage stores. it was way fun. some were a little out of our price range but we tried on a bunch of sweet little hats from the 50s and 40s. it was cool because all the items of clothing had little tags on them that said the time periods that they were from. it was like a fun fashion history lesson. we didnt buy anything ( i better say that before mom calls me and tells me not to go shopping anymore haha) when i got back michelle called and i ended u buying a metro card and heading uptown to their apartment. we played with sofie and watched movies ordered takeout and then had delicious PinkBerry (my secondary NY yogurt obsession) i slept over and then after a little shopping, elmo, and lunch the next morning i went back to the room. Sean wasn't back yet but Sierra called me again about a Barneys Warehouse Sale which is like this crazy sale in this random empty building that is like only word of mouth and its like crazy cheap designer clothes and all the socialites go and fight over designer shoes and there are no dressing rooms so old ladies are running around in their underwear grabing dresses out of other ladies hands.... its crazyy! i went not going to buy anything. i had a moment of weakness in the form of a beautiful pair of 60% off Marc Jacobs boots and i did actually call mom and beg but then i reallized that they wernt that practical and desided not to blow my food money on them. sierra got a shirt though and it was so fun to just touch all these beautiful items of clothing! here are some pictures from my adventures...
